What this turns out to be isn't what was originally thought when shovel went in soil. Actually, this lake started like most ponds as an ill-thought out attempt to add water to the backyard scenery. I
started digging first; not knowing what shape or length or width or
depth it would be. Moving dirt with a shovel was easy and fun. After AFKAPS '03(?) I called Brett Rowley and by just talking to Brett I got a vision of what the pond would be. Six
feet deep. two ponds paralell, ten ft wide and 25ft long. with ten feet
of earth between the two. One for males and one for females. I thought
it would look very good. The space between the two would be the party
deck. It was going to be two linered ponds, with block exterior walls.
but then I read about concrete being the best thing to make a pond from...with lots of rebar.
Oh this is going to be one big mess

here's a pic that tells it like it was..... the
grass in this hole is there because I thought I needed to step back and
give some serious thought and learn what was right. and the place where no grass is...well grass was there before i started digging again....
I
think i still had a vision of the "two ponds" at this time...or maybe I
had already started thinking about linking the two ponds into one pond
shaped like a "U"
For some reference points remember those orange trees in the back.

that was two years ago. just to the right of the pool net mostly hidden is my old QT, The old septic tank. Now the woman who thinks she is married to me has HER bubble pond there. The backyard looks clean compared to what it is in this pic.

and
there was block-laying....I thought I could lay block. hell KB made a
living at it so how hard can it be? That was how I felt about it a year
ago. I still can't lay block. Sure I have my moments where two
of them look straight. And one time I thought I laid three straight and
level, but that was in the dark. The next morning shattered that
hubris. But you know what, alot a Whole LOT of people can't
lay block that tell you they can. Let me see if I can find a pic of the
Blockwork that was being done by The Rebrend Freeman. A simple-minded
affable fat man. I fired him when he showed back up the next morning.
He had someone do part of the steelwork and I had to have them redo
enough of that to make me "agreeable. And then he had a "team" show up
to pour the slab. The team was supposed to be 4 people. It was 2
people, the idiot that couldn't tie steel, and a brokedown old man that
had to sit in the shade when it got time for him to smooth out the
surface. So the Surface was a little rough. Well all this
time the good Reverend kept reminding me that he was a blocklayer that
had no equal. And he might be right... I don't even lay block this bad. This is not even the worst joint, but it is cracked on both sides and you can actually see clean through to the other side When
the Good Rebrend showed up in the AM, I showed him and he told me he
could "fix all that Mistah Frisbee". I explained that he did it so it
shouldn't need fix in. And then he explainsed since I was solid pouring
the whole thing it didn't need to be "all that". I told him I wasn't
paying for crappy work, and the Solid-pour was an Additional layer of
insurance and he was fired.

that was the guy that mixed mud.....maybe I can find a pic of the "crew". The
guy with all his hair, and none of it gray, is the father of the woman
that thinks she is married to me. He is a hard-wrking man. Everyone
else got paid. Not him. that was a very cool gesture. He hadn't worked
with concrete before. he got some concrete poisoning from rubbing
cement into the joints with his hands. Never complained about it.
